Class 2 were emersed in the Ancient Roman era when we visited Truro Museum. We explored real artefacts, and were even allowed to hold thousand year-old coins. Class 2 enjoyed looking at ancient household items including mosiacs, oil lamps and even a hedgehog shaped baby bottle! We completed our trip by designing and making our own (decorative) oil lamps from clay.
Class 1's re-arranged trip to Tintagel was certainly one to remember! Luckily, the weather was perfect this time aroud!. We explored the ruins at the castle (plodding up some very steep steps!) and went over the impressive cantilever bridge which was built in 2019. Towards the end of the day, we visited the King Arthur Great Hall where we had an interactive story from Merlin, got to sit on a real throne and see the sword in the stone!
Class 3 have been busy cooking this week. Looking at a range of different food types and the nutrition they give us we created a picnic style lunch designed to fuel footballers before a match.
We made spinach pasta from scratch which was great fun! Pizzas with a homemade base and roasted vegetable sauce and also a range of fillings in wholemeal wraps.
World Book Day was once again a hugely enjoyable day. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who were able join us at the beginning of the day and share a story with the children.
The day consisted of many other activities including: the re-telling of the Gruffulo by the staff (with some amazing acting), a whole-school activity based the book, The Word Collector, which saw the children develop their vocabulary and the opportunity to read and listen to lots of stories!
It was a wonderful day and the children were an absolute delight.
Class 1 visited the synagogue in Plymouth with Trenode Academy to learn all about Judaism. The children had an amazing day learning about Jewish traditions and customs. They had the opportunity to dress-up in traditional clothes and learn about symbolism within Judaism.
To mark the beginning of Lent, we held our annual Ash Wednesday service at St Cuby's this week.
Children from Year 6 and Year 5 spoke about the origins of Ash Wednesday and its links with Shrove Tuesday. The service marks the beginning of a half-term of Collective Worships related to the Easter story which will culminate in a production at St Cuby's based on the Easter story.
Reverend Ben also kindly joined us for the service and children and the wider congregation were invited to take the mark of the cross.
Thank you to everybody who was able to attend.
Class 3 have been creating 3D sculptures of horse heads this week. Taking inspiration from the work of Heather Jansch and other artists magnificent creations have been made. These will be on display in our school for all to see.
This week at Duloe we held a Sports Day where children got to participate in a range of fun activities: frisbee golf, target shooting, archery, parachute games, boccia, cross-fit, tag-rugby, table-tennis and gymnastics.
Some of the older children (and staff!) also had an introduction to boxing by a coach from 'Wellbeing Boxing'.
In the afternoon, we were joined by children from Trenode, Polperro, Polruan and Pleynt. Our five schools share a governing body and this is the first event we had put on, so that the children can mix together and have new experiences.
It was an amazing day, filled with smiles and laughter. Hopefully, this will be the first of many similar experiences.
Children from Year 5 and Year 6 competed at the Youth Speaks competition this week, run by Liskeard and Looe rotary. Duloe were represented by four amazing teams, who spoke about a diverse range of subjects including: geothermal energy, Harry Potter, hunting and the Apollo moon landings. The children fully embodied all five of our school’s Christian values. A special thank you to Mrs Currah who has been running our debating club and supported the children with this wonderful experience.
