My name is Lauren Greenslade, and I am currently on the final
stint of my trainee teaching journey. I grew up in Cornwall with my Mum, Dad
and Brother and still currently reside in my childhood home. Although I didn’t
have the best of experiences with both primary and secondary education, I was
still fixated on the idea of a career with education and children. I chose to
expand my knowledge by taking Childcare during my GCSE’s and furthering that
knowledge and studying City and Guild’s Level 2 Childcare.
Although losing both my Dad and Grandad within little time of one
another, I used these experiences and emotions to drive my passion and pursue
my original career goal. Despite these events setting me back slightly, they did
not defer me from continuing on and leaping into A-Level’s and Higher
Education. I was lucky enough to study BA(Hons) Educational Studies at Plymouth
University, where I achieved a 2:2 degree.
After 30 years of service to Duloe school, today we said goodbye to Mrs Chudleigh. Mrs Chudleigh has been a lunch time supervisor come rain or shine and has seen so many children come through our doors. Her greatest legacy is her amazing grand-children who remain with us.
Thank you Mrs Chudleigh for all you have done for the school
Our Nursery held a graduation for some of the 17 children who are starting in Reception class in September.
Our current Class 1 children gave speeches about what they should expect and wrote prayers welcoming them to 'big school'.
A huge thank you to Sam and Nat who have helped this current Nursery cohort flourish this year.
Nelson Mandela
This week we celebrated Nelson Mandela Day on Tuesday. During the day, the children learnt about Mandela's personal journey, the plight of apartheid in South Africa and how Mandela brought significant change to the country as president. The children reflected on how their actions can change the world.
In Class 3 we have been incredibly lucky to have local artist and our school Director for Creative Arts, Eleanor Russell – Hsieh, support us with our printing work. We used the technique of monoprinting to create spectacular ‘Blitz scene’ silhouettes. We rolled black ink evenly onto a Perspex sheet and experimented with different tools to create building outlines, colour to create drama and even talcum powder to add interest and texture.
Class 3 visited Market Hall in Plymouth to experience their epic immersive dome. We watched a film linked to our WWII topic where children could experience life on the front-line.
We finished off the visit with bowling and burgers which was a huge amount of fun! William was amazing!
Children from a number of our year groups took part in a sports festival at Looe secondary school where they competed against children from other schools.
Class 3 took the train from Liskeard to Looe to take part in a workshop about plastic pollution with the Looe Marine Conservation group.
The children also walked along the coastal path to Millendreath and visited Looe Museum to look at their World War II display.
Class 2 were emersed in the Ancient Roman era when we visited Truro Museum. We explored real artefacts, and were even allowed to hold thousand year-old coins. Class 2 enjoyed looking at ancient household items including mosiacs, oil lamps and even a hedgehog shaped baby bottle! We completed our trip by designing and making our own (decorative) oil lamps from clay.
