Bubbles have popped! We are delighted that our three bubbles have popped at Duloe and now all the children can play with each other at playtimes as well as having Collective Worship back together again. The children have loved mixing together again and it has made the school feel more like its normal self!
As part of our 'What did the Greeks do for us?' topic, we made the ancient Greek recipe 'Baklava'.
We linked our learning in maths with our design and technology knowledge, using ratio to scale up and scale down the baklava recipe.
Today Class 3 took part in 'Sing2G7'. Via TEAMs, our class were part of a global community of 12,000 voices from 18 countries.
Class 3 sang ‘Gee Seven’. The song points to the fragility of ‘our only earthly home’ and ends with an urgent message to G7 leaders to collaborate and take their responsibility seriously to each other and to the rest of the world.
Due to the terrible weather conditions on Monday we had to move our Moor Day away from Minions and host the event within the school grounds.
The children still had a wonderful time: lighting fires, orienteering and learning about the colours and sounds in nature.
A big thank you to all of our Arena leaders who led the sessions with the children.
This week we have welcomed some amazing new members to the Duloe family. Turbo and Giggle (named after a great deal of debate by the children) are our new school pets. At just over one year old, hopefully they will be with us for the next 99 years!
The two tortoises were donated to the school by Michelle, who was working at the school before and during lockdown. We would like to say a huge thank you for such a fantastic gift.
We would also like to say a massive thank you to Stan's dad who has built a 5 star home for Turbo and Giggle to roam around in.
Our new classmates are such a huge hit with the children and we are looking forward to learning all about them and making sure we take incredible care of them.
We also had a visit from a slightly older tortoise this week, which gave us an idea how much Turbo and Giggle will grow!
Class 2 have linked their learning about animals in Science, with their Art and Design lessons. Focusing on the contrasting colours used by artist, George Rodrigue's 'Blue Dog' painting, they created their own artwork in a similar style.
As part of their Science lessons learning about forces, Class 3 had a competition to create the most effective parachute. They tried a range of materials and surface area sizes to find the best design before carrying out their fair test.
Class 2 have been learning the story of the 3 Little Pigs in English and French over the last few weeks. This has inspired Emily to create this animation, using the vocbulary she has developed over the course of her learning. We are incredibly proud of her creativity and effort to create such a masterpiece! Fantastique!
This week is Mental Health and Awareness week. To celebrate this, the school has some new books relating to mental health and wellbeing to share with the children.
As part of Collective Worship, we have also been looking at wellbeing. The video below shares 5 ways children and adults can support their wellbeing.
Class 1, as part of their fairy tale topic, have been learning the story of 'The Magic Porridge Pot'. In their design and technology lessons, they have been making pinch pots with clay.
Class 1 also had a very special visit this week from one of Rachael's chickens! The children were fascinated by their visitor and enjoyed having their own 'Chicken Little' in school.
