Thank you to everyone for coming in Christmas Mufti  and with gifts for the Christmas Gift Shop in a few weeks time. We were lucky to have some elves with us today too (Photo pending)!

This week, Landaviddy class went on a class trip to The Royal Cornwall Museum and Truro Museum. We had the most amazing time learning about the mummification process, exploring the Egyptian section of the museum and digging for clues to match to Egyptian artefacts. In the afternoon, we went to Truro Cathedral, which was fantastic! We were mesmerised by how big it was! See the photos below from the day!

Throughout the rest of the week, in English we have been working hard on our Egyptian traditional tales, inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. In Maths, Year 2 have finished their unit on addition and subtraction and will be starting work on Shape. Year 3 have continued Multiplication and Division this week, recapping multiples of 2, 5 and 10.

Congratulations to Alfie and Lowen H for being chosen as Landaviddy's People of the Week. And a big well done to all the children who achieved their 99 club this week!

We have been working hard on our Christmas play this week. Please help support your child at home, by practising their lines. We will be continuing play practise next week. A letter has also gone home today about costumes for the play. I have attached this below for your information. We are asking for any costumes to be brought in a named bag by Friday 6th December

Please keep practising the songs at home. I have also attached the song lyrics for the songs we have covered so far.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Mrs Wilkie, Mrs Phillips, Miss Bowden and Miss Colton

Scientist's and Architect's

This week as well as lots of amazing writing during English and working hard with addition and subtraction in Maths, the children have been rehearsing for our Christmas performance.

They have also been designing waterproof buildings for Incy Wincey Spider in Science and designing new Tudor/Stuart buildings in DT.  They have really enjoyed working together on their waterproof designs - though some were more successful than others.  Then they started to evaluate what they did!

It has been a fun end to the week with our Christmas MUFTI day - thank you for sending in so many gifts for the Christmas Gift Shop which will take place on Monday 16th December.

Lantern Procession Tomorrow The children have made some beautiful lanterns between them for the procession tomorrow. Children and parents/carers should congregate at the Chapel at 4.15pm ready to leave promptly at 4.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there. If your child carries a lantern, please ensure that they bring the cane back to school on Monday so that it can be reused next year.

Christmas Fayre Friday 6th December 2pm
The Christmas Fayre will be held next Friday, 6th December, and we are looking to accept any teddy tombola donations, raffle prizes as well as good condition toys and books to sell. Please feel free to send these into school with your child. We would also greatly appreciate any cakes/baking donations which we will then be able to sell at our Refreshment Stall. A list of ingredients must be provided for homemade cakes please. If these could be brought into school on or before Friday 6th December, they will be gratefully received.

Clubs Next week clubs will run as usual apart from running club on Friday which is cancelled because of the Christmas Fayre. For the final 2 weeks of term (9 Dec – 20 Dec) there will be no clubs except for afterschool wraparound club and Breakfast Club which will continue as usual. Clubs will restart in January and we will send a letter out after the Christmas break about which ones will be running.

Uniform Reminder If you are replacing your child’s footwear over the Christmas break, please can we remind you that you should send your child in wearing shoes which are black and flat, not boots. Please see https://www.polperroprimary.co.uk/Information/Uniform for uniform requirements. We have collected several sweatshirts this half term which are not named. These will be in the library after school on Monday for you to collect if your child has mislaid one.

Christmas Lunch- Wednesday 18th December The Christmas lunch will be held on Wednesday 18th December this year. Please see the separate attachment for the menu. If your child would like a Christmas dinner, please ensure you have booked their meal by Friday 6th December as this tends to be very popular with the children. Please book their meals on Parentpay, even if you do not need to pay for their lunches. If you have any problems, do not hesitate to contact Mrs Turnbull on secretary@polperroprimary.co.uk.

Have a lovely weekend.

TOTALLY TERRIFIC TRURO TRIP!

Another week has gone by and so much has happened.

We are fully into our rehearsals for the Christmas play - it's going to be epic! Everyone has their lines and are getting into their roles, with the stage going up next week.

ENGLISH
We are writing up our draft version of The Circulatory System explanation text and I'm rather impressed. Everyone is applying the grammar they have being learning and it makes for quite a read. Next week, we will be editing and improving and then producing our best copies.

MATHS
We are in full swing with our Fractions, already beginning to feel confident with equivalences and simplifiying.

WIDER CURRICULUM
In Art, we have been learning about the Italian technique, Chiaroscuro: the art of 3D light and dark. We have produced some work to be proud of! In DT we have been adapting a recipe to our own tastes and we have been writing about what we have learnt about the Romans, following on from our school trip!

TRIP
Our trip to Truro was a huge success! We toured around the cathedral, saw the mineral exhibition at the museum before our workshop on ancient Rome. Our challenge was to create an oil lamp and the finished products were, "The most imaginative that the lady had ever seen." Can you spot the BFG?

Congratulations to our 99 Clubbers Elsie (88) and Hamish (Bronze) as well as our People of the Week, Elsie, Verity and Joel for displaying our School Values.

Remember the Christmas Fayre is on next Friday from 2pm and the Polperro Light Switch On is tomorrow (4:15pm at the Chapel).
Hope to see everyone there!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Randle, Mrs Clary, Miss Hodge and Miss Colton.

It's beginning to look a lot like you know what!

It is starting to look a little bit festive at the Infant and Nursery School. Rehearsals are in full swing for the KS1 end of term Christmas production- 'Christmas With The Aliens!' The children have been absolute stars and some have leant their lines already. Thank you to parents/carers for rehearsing with them.
A reminder that there are parental consultation meetings next week. You can make an appointment with your child's teacher via Seesaw.
Thank you to those of you who came to the Christmas Kahoot Evening. Great fun was had by all and it was wonderful to see so many of you in attendance. A huge thanks to Dave Cunningham of Dave's Chip Stop who provided the food at such a generous discount.
Please see below for our fundraising newsletter which details how much money has be raised so far and what we have spent it on/intend to spend it on.
You should have received information about the 'Breakfast With Santa' event being held at the Infant and Nursery Base on Saturday 7th December. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.
We are looking forward to the Rainbow Mufti event on Friday 6th December. See Seesaw for more details.

Autumn 2

This week has flown by in a flurry of activity. The school is bustling with creativity and enthusiasm and we are reminded how children have great capacity to turn the most mundane tasks into something enjoyable by adding a little playfulness.

Trust Football Event
On Thursday afternoon, our older children joined pupils from our other Trust schools for a football event at Callywith College. It was a wet, windy and old affair; however this did not dampen spirits nor did the very tough competition damage enthusiasm or determination. Mr Twaite was particularly proud of the progress the group made over the course of the afternoon along with their sense of camaraderie, sportsmanship and respect for each other. They showed real spirit and resilience and we are super proud of them for representing our school.

Celebrations
In Canute class, the children have been exploring how people across the world celebrate and this week they arrived at advent celebrations. They have studied how Christians count down to Christmas and made their own advent wreath to represent the 4 Sundays of advent.

Polly Swish Clothes Swap
Reminder that the village hall is hosting the Christmas Polly Swish Clothes Swap on December 15th, the children have brought home slips today advertising the event. Like last year, the school will be among the beneficiaries of this event so if you are able to pop along on Sunday 15th, please do.

Achievement Assembly

Writer of the Week:
Antonia for always pushing and challenging herself to be the best writer she can be I all our writing lessons. Her determination and efforts pay off and the whole school enjoyed listening to her poem about the River Fowey.
Mya for taking great care to use all the sounds in every word in her independent writing and taking great care with her handwriting making it a joy to read.

Star of the Week:
Tegan for her determination, support and resilience as the team captain for our footballers.
Irina for her kindness and caring nature, lending her scooter to a friend when they felt upset.

Have a lovely weekend,
Jane Wills

Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy   Building relationships

We have had a busy half term, with lots of new children settling in and learning all about the Nursery routines; some of the very young children have found it hard to say 'good-bye' to Mummy or Daddy, but now they are coming in with excited faces.

The older children have had to learn to be tolerant and patient with the new, younger ones and now we can see how they are all building friendships with each other, enjoying each others company and being able to play alongside and share the resources.

ART

In this week’s step in our textile unit, the children mixed acrylic paint to match their mood boards and added this to their glue covered patterned material. They used their learning of the colour wheel to mix primary colours to make secondary colours and the results were great. Aside from a few blobs of paint on the carpet, the unit of work is on course to be completed next week, when we wash out the glue to reveal the patterns created.

Christmas Play

I have sent home slips with request for costumes and props for our Christmas play. Please do not buy anything new, we are asking for the children to bring in any suitable items they already have at home. If you are struggling to find any, please let us know by Wednesday 5th and we will find/make something in school.

Singing
Mrs Butlin was very impressed with the children again this week. Their enthusiasm and desire to learn our Christmas play songs is evident for all to hear and makes it a real joy to work with them. We are encouraging the children to take their song sheets home so they can continue to practice the songs at home too.

Dancing
Mrs Phillips has been teaching the class a dance as part of the play. As always, any kind of expressive art is met with gusto and positivity from everyone. That the dance requires “attitude” is only a bonus as you can see from the photos.

Enjoy the weekend,
Mr Twaite and Mrs W

TALLAND'S BLOG 29.11.24

We hope you're all getting excited for the Polperro Lanterns Parade tomorrow... I know we are! The children have worked tremendously hard and created lots of fabulous lanterns! It was incredibly lovely to watch how the older children helped the younger children decorate them. Such an amazing bunch of personalities we have here at Polperro!

Maths:
Year 5 have been working their way through multiplying 3-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. We've been learning how to organise the calculation and discussing why the place holder is important and necessary. Eg. 3 2 4
                                                                                                                x    2 3

                                                                                                                          0

Year 4 have been looking at factors and discovering which factor pairs make a product. EG... 3 x 4 = 12 (3 and 4 are our factor pairs and 12 is the product).

English:
Talland have been looking at the differences as similarities between the Athenians and the Spartans as they prepare to write their persuasive letter urging their people to fight in the great Peloponnesian War.

Science:
We had lots of fun experimenting with sound with the use of a drum, a beater and some corn... amongst other instruments. Talland now know that sound is created by vibration and sound does not travel in a straight line.

What Christmas Means To Me:
Talland and Chaipel have been getting to grips with our Christmas Production. I've enjoyed sitting in my directors chair and shouting CUT, whilst both classes have done a fine job at learning their lines... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EVERYONE!

Well done to the year 5 Playground Leaders who have been organising and helping children with activities during Lunch times. Great job Archie and Thomas for bringing in some fantastic artefacts and homework, creating an abundance of curiosity amongst our class. And of course, congratulations to our superstar 99 clubbers for passing their 99 club this week: Flora, Arnie, Leo, Skye, Tabbi and Archie.

That's all from Talland this week. We hope you have a fantastic weekend and see you tomorrow for the Polperro Lantern Parade.

Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.

P.S Year 5 will continuing looking at last weeks spellings.

I think we can certainly say the highlight of this week was going to the cinema on Tuesday to see 'The Wild Robot'. We have been greatly looking forward to this since we read the book last half term. We handed out the tissues as we knew there'd be some tears, and Miss Henning certainly had a few! It was a lovely film, highly recommended. We will be writing film reviews soon!

Also this week, we published our Earthquake non-chronological reports - they're looking amazing!
We finished our unit of Maths on Area (Year 4) and are about to start on Multiplication and Division!
In Science, we drew diagrams of the 3 states of matter - solids, liquids and gases. Can you remember how the particles move in each?
In Geography, we have designed our earthquake proof buildings, ready to build them in the coming weeks!

Phew! What a week, as always!
Have a safe and wonderful weekend!

A huge well done to our trio of very talented artists whose Christmas card designs have been chosen by the Archdeacon of Bodmin as the official diocese design for this year. Every child in the school entered the competition and once again we were blown away by the children's creativity and artistic talent.

Working Together

This week Tregantle Class have been getting brilliant at being 'Teamwork Tigers.' The children have been learning about how to be a good partner and group member; we have been taking turns, listening to our friends and talking respectfully to each other. This has meant that we have accomplished some amazing things! One team of children worked together to complete a large dinosaur puzzle. They then made it into a 'dino world' by adding a wall and toy dinosaurs. Another group of children used their teamwork skills to build a whole village in the construction area. There was such attention to detail including a swimming pool and a park! Another group of teamwork tigers went to the creative area and and worked together to make a spectacular volcano. The writing table has also been very busy this week as so many children are now using their knowledge of sounds to build words. We have seen some incredible independent writing - well done Tregantle teamwork Tigers!

29th Nov 24

We had another assembly on Tuesday about the upcoming reindeer run in aid of St Luke’s Hospice. The children remembered our visitor and were keen to find out more. The sponsorship forms should have come home this week in readiness for the run on Wednesday. Again, as the children were reminded, there is no obligation to raise any sponsorship in order to take part. We know that times are still hard for many families and anything that can be spared will go to St Luke’s. If it is only a few pence in spare change, please attach it to the form and send it back. On Wednesday, the children will run around the school grounds wearing their antlers to keep fit, have fun and hopefully raise some money. I would like to say a huge thank-you from the school and PTFA for the kind donations for the Christmas hamper raffle. This is always popular and looking at the donations from the non-uniform day today, the hampers this year will be as good as ever! If you have any other donations, please feel free to drop them into the office. As part of the Liskeard Lights Up festival tomorrow, the children have been busy making lanterns that those families able to go to the festival will be able to take along. They look amazing and the children took such pride in creating them. Also, to celebrate the festival and Cornish heritage, we welcomed Maureen and Rod from the Cornish Language group into school on Wednesday for a lesson in Cornish. It is great to see the language still spoken and the children had a great time. Thank-you so much to them both for giving up their time. On Thursday afternoon, some of our KS2 children were selected to attend a Football Tournament at Callywith College, they all had a fantastic time and came 5th overall. Well done!

Weekly Blog

It's hard to believe that we only have 4 days left of this first half term. It feels like yesterday that the children were coming into their new classes after the summer break. We are all very proud of the way that the children have worked hard and applied themselves to the learning this half term. What an amazing place Darite is to work. I am looking forward to seeing some of you next week for our first parent consultation evenings. This is a chance for you to find out how the children have settled into this year and ask any questions. If you have any concerns at any time, please let us know and we will try to help out. Because of this, there are no clubs running next week. Good luck to the children running in the first cross-country race this afternoon. Hopefully the weather stays dry and it's not too muddy! A reminder also that next Friday is an INSET day and school will be closed to children. The staff will be having some training alongside the other schools in the trust on how to make writing even better

It's the end of week 3 and learning is in full swing at Darite. Class 2 have been coding wearable technology for their DT sessions and Class 1 have been doing some fantastic writing. The children also have enjoyed their session of Wild Tribe this afternoon. It is a great time to see the children working cooperatively together to work and learn outside. I have also invited children to bring in any achievements they have done outside of school to celebrate in our Friday assembly. If they have progressed in a Judo belt, been awarded a trophy or certificate, they are welcome to bring it in to celebrate on Friday. Thank-you to those who have managed to book a slot for the parent consultations this half term. It is an opportunity for Mrs Lake and myself to give you a little information about how the children have settled into the new year. Appointments can be booked using Arbor but, as always, if these times are not convenient or you have any other questions, please let Mrs Norris know in the office and we can see how we can help. Please make sure that you keep yourself up to date with upcoming events from the newsletter or website. Next week is our whole-school trip to Pendennis Castle.

Christmas Celebrations at Looe Primary Academy 2024

It has been the most wonderful time of the year with so many fantastic Christmas events taking place across the whole school. This week, the children have enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch thanks to our wonderful Caterlink staff. The children in Years One and Two have performed their 'Fleece Force' show to their families. It was a brilliant Nativity performance and the children really made us all very proud.

The children in our Performing Arts Club visited the local care home to share Christmas carols and were joined by a group of children from Key Stage Two who had written lovely letters for some of the elderly people. We had hoped to spread some Christmas kindness and the children certainly achieved that, bringing smiles to the people of Hillcrest Care Home.

On Wednesday the Performing Arts Club also shared their performance with their parents and it was truly wonderful.

"It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas..."

Friday 29th November

Some of this week’s exploring and learning:

In English this week we started to explore the story Lost and Found. The children have been learning this story through listening to the book, watching the video and using a story map in class. The children made stick puppets of the characters this week and then used their oracy skills to retell the story. They have really enjoyed exploring this story.

This week in maths the children having been subitising 4 and 5 and also ensuring they have mastered counting on and back to 5. We sang lots of counting on and back songs and read some lovely counting stories.

In phonics this week we have been reviewing, revisiting and writing letters, e/u/r and diagraph ck/

The children have also been making magical castles from building blocks, learning how to draw a teddy bear by practicing their pencil grip and pencil control and, printing with ink. We have also been watching Toy Story and using our imaginations to design toys that may come alive when we are at home! Next week we will make our toys!

Have a wonderful weekend
